Walter Reed House

Walter Reed House This image of the Walter Reed House depicts the house as it was in the 1970s. Our goal is to restore this significant historic home to its rightful condition. The Murfreesboro Historical Assocation, Inc. is working with Reid Thomas, Restoration Specialist, State Historic Preservation Office, Division of Historical Resources,North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. An in-depth report has been concluded and it will serve as a guideline for repairs to the exterior of the home.

The Hertford County Commissioners sold the house to MHA in October of 2015. They ran a Nutrition Center for local citizens to receive lunch for a minimal amount. Meals on Wheels was also a part of the program. They have relocated to another site nearby. The County will be providing financial assistance for the first year of our ownership and thereafter will be determined later.

President of MHA, Lamar Van Brackle has appointed Mr. Doug Deets as Site Manager of the Walter Reed House. He will oversee the work done on the building. His wife, Suzanne, has been instrumental in conducting a Shabby Chic Sale on site; with the proceeds going toward repairs to the building.
